Platform summary

The UK Climate Resilience Programme brings together fragmented climate research and expertise and undertakes robust, multi- and inter-disciplinary climate risk and adaptation research to build UK capacity for resilience to climate variability and change. The programme’s Science Plan describes the vision for the programme, its main objectives, the research challenge and the legacy the programme is aiming to leave by the time the programme completes in 2022.

The programme pursues three objectives: a) better understand, characterise and communicate the risks of a changing climate for the UK; b) understand how we can better incentivise and improve the management of these risks and c) co-produce and trial pilot climate services and develop a framework/roadmap for climate services in the UK.

The UK Climate Resilience Programme website showcases research and findings from UKRI projects and Met Office work packages that are being conducted for the UK Climate Resilience Programme. It also hosts webinar series and knowledge exchanges in which both researchers and stakeholders participate, including the 2021 Climate Resilience Webinar Series. All the programme’s videos can be found on the UK Climate Resilience Programme YouTube channel.

Main functions:

  • Share research on adaptationfunded by the programme through project descriptions, papers, webinar and event archives. This includes: quantitative data for adaptation decision-making, decision-support tools for adaptation decision-making, arts performances, infographics and case studies.
  • The website also shares wider news and event information of interest to the climate resilience community in the UK.

Intended audiences:

  • The key target audiences are national level decision makers in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland – including government departments and agencies, including Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA), Natural Resources Wales (NRW), Environment Agency (EA), Public Health England. In this context, the website supports:
    • National-level decision makers / national government
    • Private sector / businesses
    • Research community
    • Civil society (NGO / charities)

Why the platform was established

This platform was established to share news about and research findings from the projects funded under the UK Climate Resilience Programme and make links to other work of relevance on climate resilience for the UK.
