Introduction

One of the key ambitions of the Adaptation AGORA project is to empower communities and regions to design and implement effective climate adaptation measures. To achieve this, building capacity is essential—equipping stakeholders with the right skills, knowledge, and tools to respond to the challenges of a changing climate.

The Adaptation Agora project brings together the diverse capacity-building resources (CBRs) created in earlier project activities by compiling, synthesising, and making them more widely accessible. CBRs are tools and materials designed to strengthen the skills, knowledge, and resources of individuals and organisations for effective climate adaptation.

Relevant CBRs have been developed throughout the project and integrated into the full set of CBRs to ensure that the final portfolio captures insights and practices from across the entire Adaptation AGORA project. The CBRs included have been/are applied in workshops, training activities, and community engagement, and are instrumental in enhancing resilience by addressing vulnerabilities and shifting power dynamics.

The Adaptation AGORA project delivers a comprehensive and coherent compilation that mirrors the interconnected nature of climate adaptation itself. Stakeholders now have access to a richer, more diverse set of materials—practical guides, training modules, and participatory tools—that support them in co-creating transformative pathways to climate resilience.

In doing so, Adaptation AGORA continues to build a strong foundation for inclusive adaptation, enabling communities, practitioners, and policymakers to learn from each other and apply proven approaches across different regions and contexts.

Who would find this useful?

Practitioners and policy makers focussing on climate change adaptation and citizen engagement. The materials may also be of interest to those learning or interested in learning about new topic areas such as climate change disinformation.

Content available

Content included in the capacity building resources is compiled of lessons and learnings from the Adaptation Agora project:

  • Digital Tools – Overview of the Digital Tools created by Adaptation AGORA to tackle disinformation, production of educational material (interviews/videos), and capacity building for stakeholder engagement.
  • Academy on Climate Data – Overview on what the Academy of climate data is and its structure, how the resource can be used in co-design processes.
  • Activities in the Roman Pilot – Practical guidance and local insights on climate adaptation strategies, citizen engagement activities and capacity building methodologies in the Roman Pilot study.
  • Building up twinning Agora’s through online cross-regional peer-to-peer activities – Practical guidance, local insights, networking opportunities are discussed focussing on adaptation measures, mitigation pathways, and capacity building.
  • Climate adaptation and the components of vulnerability – Description and practical examples of the difference between climate adaptation and mitigation, and the components of vulnerability (exposition, sensitivity and adaptive capacity) and how they interact with each other.
  • Climate change challenges and solutions – A clear and practical summary of the more complex scientific aspects of climate change, made accessible to the general public.
  • Focus group summaries from the pilot regions – Practical guidance and insights of soft adaptation measures and engagement strategies with recommendations that reflect local needs.
  • Adaptation Agora Glossary – Clear definitions of climate change adaptation concepts, sources for each entry to ensure traceability and scientific rigor and a harmonised terminology base for all project partners and stakeholders.
  • Heat and heat protection measures in the health system – Description of the heat-related challenges as well as potential solutions.
  • Materials to enhance media literacy and combat climate change misinformation – This resource provides materials written in a simple and accessible way, aiming to strengthen media literacy and critical thinking skills for both the general public and more targeted audiences.
  • Methodologies to address climate misinformation – A quick and easy guide to the most effective techniques for countering misinformation and how to respond to those who spread it.
  • What is adaptation to climate change – Practical guidance on the definition of climate change adaptation and the importance of stakeholder engagement within climate adaptation.
  • What is climate misinformation – An easy and interactive way to discover climate disinformation and misinformation topics.

Learning outcome

The capacity building resources cover a variety of topics and learnings from the Adaptation Agora project. The resources provide insights into work that was undertaken and lessons learnt, to help provide and support those interested in completing similar work in the future.
