Summary

The objective of the Pyrenean Climate Change Observatory is to monitor and understand how climate change affects the mountainous bioregion of the Pyrenees, and to help it to confront climatic changes with decision-making tools. The observatory also supports demonstrative adaptation experiences. The OPCC platform is the main tool and makes available to the general public classified and georeferenced information on the effects of climate change on topics such as past and present climate, future climate, natural risks, tourism, agro-pastoralism, energy, flora, fauna, forests, sensitive high mountain ecosystems and water resources. For each topic, a broad overview is provided of the variables related to the future impacts of climate change in the region, as well as recommendations on how to deal with these changes together with good practices developed in the territory. Similarly, each territory has aggregated information and documents on specific local directives and guidelines. The website contains a geoportal, which allows users to map various variables according to climate change scenarios. Among other tools, users can participate in citizen science projects and contribute their findings, knowledge and research activities collaboratively. Finally, the OPCC portal reports and collects news and events relevant to the Pyrenean region.

Host organisation: Pyrenean Climate Change Observatory

Launch date: 2014
