Youth and Intergenerational Climate Justice

Globally, there are over 4 billion young people—half of the world’s population—under the age of 30, making them the first generation to grow up experiencing climate change. 

Climate change profoundly impacts young people affecting their physical and mental health, increasing their exposure to extreme events, and worsening their socio-economic prospects. They are likely to inherit a world with more frequent and extreme natural disasters, conflicts, disrupted food and water supplies, and greater instability.

However, young people are not just victims of climate change; they are becoming a powerful force in the fight against it. They bring fresh perspectives, innovative ideas, strong leadership, resourcefulness, and a sense of urgency to the climate movement. They are leveraging innovative methods, art, and digital tools to raise awareness, nurture connections, bring climate issues to the forefront of public discourse, and advocate for policy changes. 

weADAPT’s Youth and Intergenerational Climate Justice Theme is a dedicated space showcasing and supporting young people’s climate adaptation work. The Theme features content relevant to youth and intergenerational climate justice, as well as opportunities such as courses, trainings, events, fellowships, and funding to support their efforts.
